Tangonero is a young Argentine tango band based in San Francisco. The quartet specializes in classic tango – a genre that fuses intense passion with quiet tenderness, alternating sharp percussive rhythms with slow nostalgic melodies. It is music of deepest feeling, squeezing one’s heart to tears and then setting listeners’ feet to dancing. The group draws for inspiration from the original Argentine masters of the early 20th century, including Carlos Di Sarli, Francisco Canaro, and Anibal Troilo. Tangonero’s debut CD, “La Yumba,” is full of the classic tangos from their concerts. The musicians are violinist Michele Walther, double bassist Jacob Johnson, guitarist Zac “Sharbidar” Selissen, and Moscow-born accordionist Alex Roitman. |
