Doors at 6:30 PM - Show at 7:00 PM
With up to 11 musicians (9 horns and 2 percussionists), Bay Area-San Francisco-based Inspector Gadje featuring Ismail Lumanovski bring a big sound to the beautiful and bumpin’ brass band music of the Balkans of south-eastern Europe.
Seven years into their cross cultural and continental collaboration, Inspector Gadje and Ismail Lumanovski have one album under their belt and a second on the way in Fall 2023. There’s been a buzz from the start for this pairing, which consistently draws sold out crowds for all-night sweat soaked dance parties propelled by high energy, soaring, funky, dirty, ecstatic Balkan brass. While Lumanovski and Inspector Gadje each stand tall as performers in their own right, together they have a certain synergy and magic that take their music to new heights. Tight and adventurous arrangements, grooves that get under the skin and into the feet, and epic solos come together for music that touches the heart, stirs the soul, and moves the body.
Described by The New York Times as "a brilliant, fearless young clarinetist," Ismail Lumanovski brings classical training to his Roma roots, creating a unique, showstopping sound. Truly a global musician, Lumanovski studied at Julliard and has performed as headlining artist at venues like Carnegie Hall in New York, and prominent stages in Germany, Korea, Turkey, China, Tunisia, Brazil, and more.
Hearing Inspector Gadje is love at first listen. The driving, tight groove of low brass and drums with soaring melodies from trumpets, saxophones, and clarinet incite joy and dance from the very first downbeat. Inspector Gadje ignites the dance floor and makes the party wherever they play, be it clubs (including notable venues such as the MGM Arena, Fox Theater, Palace Of Fine Arts, The Independent, Ashkenaz, Café du Nord, The New Parish, Rickshaw Stop, and Yoshi’s to name a few) weddings, parties, and street festivals.
Hailing from San Francisco, Izzy Wise is a multi-instrumentalist and DJ who produces eclectic dance music that bounces from West Africa to the West Indies, and all points in between. For more than a decade Wise cut his teeth in San Francisco, DJing at parties like the legendary Afrolicious night and landmark venues like The Independent, Monarch and 1015 Folsom. His pursuit for unique rhythms & melodies has led him to the jungles of Nicaragua and fabled islands lost in the Caribbean Sea. When he’s not making field recordings and playing in live groups, Wise releases music on imprints like Délicieuse Records, Lips & Rhythm and Mule Musiq. His dedication in the studio is unwavering and his original output often reflects a well-blended taste of disco, boogie funk and house. Wise also plays live with a variety of instruments that he works into his energetic performances. His sets are best described as funky underground ethnomusicology courses with hypnotic grooves. In 2022 Izzy Wise pushes onward in search of fresh sounds to share with us all on late nights.
